Symantec Endpoint Protection is being used by the global Ford Motor Company organization. All the computers owned by the company have this software installed as default. It protects our hardware/software from online and local threats (spyware, virus, malware etc.).
  • Different scan options available based on the needs (Active scan: 1-2 minutes / Full scan: 30-120 minutes).
  • Easy capture and removal of malware, spam, virus etc.
  • Live Update on protection database - makes you feel safe all the time.
  • Easy access to logs (Threat protection, Virus & Spyware, Network Mitigation...).
  • Simple interface and easy management of all the tools/features.
  • The administrative console gives rights to admins.
  • Can cause computers with old tech to slow down during start up
  • Less detailed report capability
I think Symantec Endpoint Protection provides very good protection from all kind of threats. Due to the lean interface, it is sure easy to use. However, set up and start up is time-consuming. It can cause old computers to slow down during start up. Overall, it does perform at the top level as a business-level endpoint protection solution. I feel very safe while working at the office as I've never encountered any issues with this software before. Any kind of spyware or malware is defeated instantly by the help of this up-to-date database.
  • No harm on the critical files due to excellent protection
  • Safe online work due to clean internet connection
  • No negative impacts
Back in the day, Norton was one of the choices in the company; while now Symantec is being used as default in the global organization due to its advantages against the alternatives. Very briefly, Symantec provides more benefits especially when considered as a business-level solution.

Endpoint Encryption works well. We have deployed it on all company laptops and it has provided needed protection for our data. It is fairly straightforward to install and use. Good product to have for security.
  • The user experience and the robust combination of PGP and SEE to make SEE 12 has been outstanding.
  • E-mail, file and whole disk encryption are excellent features that give great protection for my environment.
  • Needs to be more granular when it comes to managing external storage devices such as USB drives.
Legal and compliance departments are required to have all the desktops' hard drives encrypted and to provide the complete inventory to demonstrate that the encryption covers all the computers in the firm. I would recommend other customers to consider SEE as encryption solution.
  • Protection of our data. We have had several laptops stolen since implementation and this had protected our data.
Full Disk encryption solution for roaming users and key management. From an end-user perspective the product is very intuitive and easy to use. Leaving minimal footprint to the ultimate end user experience. And the integration with BitLocker is excellent. The best tool out there for encrypting data.

There have been some challenges with Symantec Endpoint Encryption over the years through the integration of the two products (GuardianEdge and PGP) however, these problems have been resolved and a great product has come out. Symantec Endpoint Encryption has been used to help manage our self-encrypting drives, BitLocker encrypted devices and even our Mac machines through FileVault.
The product is great for managing our encrypted needs on all of our devices and also enables our helpdesk to deal with users who forget their passphrase or need help resolving the issue.
  • Helps with all of our devices, Windows and Mac
  • Manages FileVault, BitLocker, self-encrypting Drives, and PGP encryption
  • Better console for management
  • Keeping up with new releases of Windows and Mac
Symantec Endpoint Encryption is a great product for organizations that have different devices and/or operating systems (OS).
  • Allows our helpdesk staff to help users who forget their encryption passhprase or need other help with things
  • Provides ease of mind for management with them knowing all devices are encrypted
  • Easy to use for our end users
We needed a tool to manage BitLocker and FileVault and this product does both. Also, we needed a product to manage our self-encrypting drives (OPAL drives) and things work great.

At my small hospital we use Symantec Endpoint Encryption to protect our roaming devices. We needed a solution that didn't require Microsoft Windows Enterprise (bitLocker) and didn't require the end user to sign in with different credentials. The pre-os screen prompts the end user for their Active Directory sign-in and then bypasses the windows sign in and uses the already captured credentials.
  • Single Sign On
  • User Interface
  • Global Management
  • Password Changes can be slow, and are confusing for end users. Perhaps a prompt to remind them to use their older credentials?
  • New users complain about slowness due to the first time encryption process. This is to be expected. A on-screen notification to the end user encryption is currently happening would be nice.
  • We require check-in every 60 days. Sometimes even though the device has been on the network the device fails to check in with the SEE manager.
  • Cannot manage disks once drives have been encrypted. This is a part of the design but annoying. We twice had to expand out-of-space drives and could not due to the encryption. We had to decrypt the entire drive and then re-encrypt to perform this task.
Symantec Endpoint Encryption is nice for medium to large companies. For small companies they may choose to go with a freeware product that performs the same end results without the SSO capability to save money.
  • Ability to take machines offsite
  • Protect Patient Information

Symantec Drive Encryption is currently being used across the whole organization. It is used to help protect customer data and allow us to be compliant with the different types of customers that we deal with on a daily basis. The Drive Encryption product is very user friendly and does not affect our day to day work.
  • Symantec Drive Encryption does 256 byte encryption.
  • Connects to Active Directory to allow for single sign-on.
  • Automatically encrypts drives without needing user interaction.
  • If I forget my password the software has recovery tokens to allow access to the drive. Recovery tokens are provided from the management server.
  • The bootguard customization has specific requirements that are sometimes hard to match.
  • Self recovery questions have to be manually created on the management server or on the client locally. It would be nice to see some hard coded questions that you could use.
  • The management server admins are difficult to figure out at first. This process could be explained better in documentation.
The product is outstanding but the newest release does not support Mac clients but will allow you to manage FileVault. The product also is going to have the ability to manage BitLocker which will be good for environments that use BitLocker and struggle with zero management.
  • Keeps our company compliant with HIPPA and other requirements that our customers have.
  • Does not affect user's day to day work.
  • Increased security for mobile employees.
The Symantec Drive Encryption product in our testing was the best in the encryption class of products. The management functionality and reporting was far and above any other product that we tested. Its ability to connect to Active Directory and the ability to push client packages and policy updates through a GPO were a great fit for our organization.
